Our clients purchased
a newly renovated house -- contemporary style -- and had absolutely
no idea how to furnish or decorate it. First priority were the
rooms used most: kitchen and family room with extra seating for
when family and friends drop in.
____With two small children and
out-of-town parents often staying with them, our clients wanted
the family room to be functional but at the same time, to be
elegant and stylish. We started with Hunter Douglas Pirouette
blinds on the large window and sliding glass door for privacy
and light control. The sectional sofa/bed combination, covered
in a very durable but attractive fabric, provides plenty of seating.
The storage/ottoman, where all the children's toys are kept,
allows for additional seating when required. Toss cushions, wool
area rug, lighting and fabulous artwork complete the serene décor.

____Our clients asked for
seating for six in the breakfast area of their kitchen, with
the ability to increase to seating for eight. The espresso brown
solid-wood table and chairs resonate with the granite countertops
and provide contrast to the light-coloured cabinetry. A new pendant
light fixture provides much needed light when the table is sometimes
used as a desk when our client works from home. (Detail

____The striped fabric in
the roman shade reflects the soft colours found in this room.
Its texture contrasts with the smooth surfaces found on the stainless
steel appliances, glass tile backsplash and granite countertops.

____Our client sits with
her morning coffee, enjoying the serenity and peacefulness around
her, while preparing for the hectic pace that the rest of the
day will bring. |
